# Getting the Shark Jack Online

Getting the Shark Jack Display online can be convenient for a number of reasons, such as installing payloads using the `Get Payload` function, or checking for software updates.

Since the Shark Jack Display supports `NETMODE DHCP_CLIENT` and `NETMODE STATIC` from [Arming Mode](/shark-jack-display/getting-started/modes-of-operation.md#arming-mode), getting online is simple.

## Getting Online

For most home and lab networks, a DHCP server is present to aid in getting new devices online.

1. Boot the Shark Jack Display into Arming Mode
2. Set the `Active NETMODE` to `DHCP_CLIENT`, either as the `Arming Defaults` or only for `This Session`
3. Verify that the Shark Jack Display has obtained an internal IP address from `About` > `Networking`
4. Test the internet connection, either using a payload, the `Get Payloads` function, or [check for updates](broken://pages/EMq5U8KooedJCtWt7Y4L)

{% hint style="warning" %}
Make sure your time and date settings are accurate. The Shark Jack Display will not automatically set the time via NTP when connected to the Internet. \
\
To do so, either configure `Settings` > `This Session` > `Network Time` , or by change the boot default from `Settings` > `Advanced` > `Boot Settings` > `Services` > `Network Time`. \
\
If the time and date are not accurate, SSL connections will fail.
